Due to popular demand effective from the beginning of June 08 there will be a new Saturday morning ride for strong advanced and intermediate riders with a few new changes. advanced group ride with a variety of riding options throughout the week, we have moved our intermediate riders riders to Saturday morning with a new format that we are sure you will love.
The Saturday bunch ride ride will now start at Maiseys Cafe at Neutral Bay.
There will be a new bunch ride on Saturdays. The ride will not be an official KOM Cyclery ride but rather a meeting point for intermediate and advanced riders wanting a solid hit out at the start of th weekend! The meeting point will be at Maiseys Café (a few doors down from KOM Cyclery) and will finish at KOM or a nearby café. The ride will be leaving at 6.30am. The team KOM riders will be there when not away racing. If we are unable to make the ride, there is always a bunch of like minded riders meeting here so make yourself know to all
The ride will head down through the Spit & out along Pittwater Rd heading up through Church Point. The main bunch will go via Akuna Bay and "time poor riders" will have the option to go straight up McCarrs Creek Rd or join in with the main bunch when they catch them. The hills will be ridden at a solid pace and on the way home from Mona Vale Rd to Seaforth, the main group will be "swapping off" at a solid pace (45-55km/h).
There will be a very easy section between the top of the Akuna Bay climb (Rangers Station) to the roundabout up near Mona Vale Rd. This is so the main bunch can regroup. There will be NO stopping.
The ride will be a safe and fast ride with direction & instruction provided by the senior riders in the group. For the first week or two, ensure you turn up in plenty of time so that the rides can be explained over coffee.
For safety concerns we do not recommend you ride if the roads are wet or if inclement weather is imminent.
The Saturday morning rides are for intermediate and advanced riders You can expect some hills, traffic and great company. You can safely park your car at the rear of the store for the duration of the ride and we have two great cafes on either side of KOM for post ride breakfast munchies. Please make sure your bike is in good working order and you carry at least one spare tube, lights if necessary a pump and money to shout DC a coffee!. Anyone from any club is most welcome to join these bunch's but please be aware that you will be responsible for your own safety when riding. Bring lights if needed and your common sense.
Riders in bunch's will always have the safety of every member in the bunch as a main concern but ultimately KOM will not accept any responsibility for any accidents that may occur.

KOM Five Peaks Training Ride.
The KOM Five Peaks (KOMFP) ride will take place approximately once every quarter (please confirm with Dave C or Wazza at the shop if you are planning on riding) and will leave from KOM at 6.00am sharp on the designated morning. The ride will be approximately 170km and will take between 5 and 6 hours returning to the shop. The ride is designed for experienced riders who ride a minimum of 250km plus per week and are comfortable riding in a group.
The route for the course heads up the Pacific Highway from KOM, through Hornsby before tuning left off the highway through Galston Gorge (#1). The route then heads through Arcadia and down to the car ferry at Berowra Waters before climbing (#2) back up to the highway at Berowra. From there, it's straight along the highway to the Hawkesbury River at Brooklyn and continue on to the top of Mount White (#3) where we turn around and head back up to Pie in the Sky (#4) where we can refuel. From there we back track along the highway to the Bobbin Head turnoff at Hornsby Heights heading down through Kuringai National Park to Bobbin Head and climbing (#5) out at the North Turramurra side. There is another re fuelling stop at the North Turramurra shops before heading through St Ives and joining Mona Vale Rd heading towards Frenches Forest. We turn right on Frenches Forest Road and head back via the Wakehurst Parkway across the Spit and back to KOM. Coffee and as much food as you can consume is advised at Kaos (several doors down from KOM) if time permits.
Each of the climbs are approximately between 3 and 4km and are a mild gradient. Apart from the 5 main climbs, the rest of the ride could be described as undulating and challenging. There are opportunities to cut the ride short if absolutely needed!
The next Five Peaks ride is TBA...be there for a morning of hurt! Please email us at info@komcyclery.com.au to express your interest in taking part in this ride.
